CGD RT joins forces with the Medical Research Council

CGD RT and the Medical Research Council are going into partnership to fund a Clinical Research Training Fellowship specifically for CGD.  Our charity is a minnow in funding research compared to the Medical Research Council, who have an annual budget upward of £543 million each year.

“Whenever possible, the MRC is keen to work in partnership with patient organisations and the charitable sector,” said Geoffrey Dare of the MRC. “These partnerships ensure that we do our utmost to tackle conditions which may not be as popular with scientists and recruit researchers from within the clinic. We are delighted to be working with CGD RT to fund these important starter awards for clinical research careers, which will encourage more research into this rare and life-threatening genetic disorder.”

CGD RT will split the costs of the fellowship 50/50 with the MRC.  This prestigious award will be for three to four years and will provide support for clinicians, at the early stages of their career, to undertake specialised research training for the benefit of people affected by CGD. “ This is a great initiative and an excellent opportunity for CGD RT to kick-start the research careers of doctors who will forge ahead with developing new treatments for CGD”, said our Director, Dr Liz Nelson.

Calls for applications are posted on our website and on the MRC site (details below).  Applications have to be in by the 25th January 2008 and we expect take up of the award later that year.
