MRC/Chronic Granulomatous Disorder Research Trust Clinical Research Training Fellowship 2008

Central to our research strategy is the need to develop opportunities for the scientific training of young clinicians, to strengtrhen the links between the laboratory and the clinic. In collaboration with the Medical Research Council we are pleased to announce the creation of a new Clinical Research Training Fellowship award for clinicians.

The MRC/CGD Research Trust Clinical Research Training Fellowship aims to support clinicians wishing to pursue research into the pathogenesis and treatment of CGD.

One award will be available under this scheme in 2008.

Closing date is 19th September 2008

The CGD Research Trust will be actively involved in the selection process for this award.

The Clinical Research Training Fellowship: up to three years support is available for clinically qualified, active professionals to undertake specialised or further research training. Applicants wishing to conduct patient orientated Clinical Research Training Fellowships may apply for four years funding. The scheme is designed to accomodate the dual clinical-research training career path by allowing Fellows to spend up to 20% of their time on NHS sessions. It is awarded at the clinical pre-doctoral or entry level, although medically qualified applicants who obtained their PhD some time ago may also apply. Fellows are required to register for a research degree, normally a PhD, based on research undertaken during the Fellowship.

Eligibility criteria

To meet the criteria set by the CGD Research Trust, applicants for this award must be based within a specialist immunology setting that carries out research into the causes, treatment and management of CGD. Applicants should ensure that proposals reflect our research strategy.

If you wish to discuss your proposed research area in advance of submission, please contact Dr Susan Walsh, Research Officer, The CGD Research Trust, (cgd@cgdrt.co.uk).

Applications must also meet the eligibility criteria set by the MRC. Visit the MRC website for more details.

How to apply

The CGD Research Trust Fellowship will be administered by the MRC. Application forms can be found in the 'Guidance for applicants' section on the MRC website. For specific detail, click here.

Applicants should indicate on their application form where they are eligible for this jointly funded award. If the jointly funded fellowship has already been allocated, the panel will offer successful candidates that meet the competitive criteria set by the MRC, a standard MRC fellowship instead.
