David Barlow
David got involved with CGD RT around 1996 when he was asked by a neighbour (fellow Trustee Geoff Creamer) to prepare the accounts for the Charities Commission. When a complicated VAT issue came up he helped again, and gradually became more closely involved, being made a Trustee in 2007.
His friendship with an affected family had already alerted him and his wife Marion to some of the problems faced by CGD sufferers, and motivated him to get more involved.
David says: "It is very rewarding to be involved with such a great charity, which has made such an impact in its field, and to work with a committed staff and trustees."
He is Director of Finance & Corporate Services for Greater Merseyside Connexions, a not-for-profit company working with young people, which he helped establish in 2001. Previous experience included 14 years with the Co-operative Bank and six years introducing modern accounting methods to the Archdiocese of Liverpool.
Married to Marion Barlow (CGD RT's Treasurer) with three children, he became a grandfather earlier this year. He supports his home town club Oldham Athletic and as a Christian is heavily involved with his local church. He is also Chairman of the Governing Body of a local primary school.
Due to the influence of his son, David has become a late convert to Bruce Springsteen, and is also busily familiarising himself with the Teletubbies and Tweenies for when grandson Ethan comes to visit.
