Barbara Akpapo
Barbara worked in a demanding full time position as a computer programmer in Dublin before moving to the UK. With a young daughter at primary school, she currently works part time, giving the opportunity to share her skills with a charity.
Barbara knew little about the CGD Research Trust when she answered the advertisement for volunteers, but her IT and other skills quickly proved valuable to the charity. She has been working across a variety of projects including setting up databases, web monitoring and helping out with family days.
"For me, volunteering is a way of using my existing professional skills, while having fun and meeting new people. It is also a great way to gain valuable new knowledge and skills, and I would encourage other people to get involved."
