Our track record

The Charity has always focused its efforts on raising funds to increase research towards the treatment and cure of Chronic Granulomatous Disorder and support the families affected. Your donations, help and feedback have been vital and will continue to be.

We have put £3.6 million into research in the last 13 years, have established support services, developed a contact network for affected families, medics and researchers; produced vital information and raised awareness of CGD. As well as being the only UK charity dedicated to improving life for people affected by CGD, the name of the CGD Research Trust has become recognised internationally.

We are

• Driving forward research by investing £376,379 in 2009 to three research projects into improving gene therapy, fighting fungal infections and inflammation in CGD.

• Planning for future research by funding the development of new cellular models of CGD

• Stimulating further research by providing seed corn funding to get preliminary data. In 2009 a $2.2 m research grant was awarded to Dr Brahm Segal at Roswell Park Cancer Institute to support further research on the enzyme defective in CGD as a critical regulator of inflammation.

• Helping support families by funding a paediatric and an adult clinical nurse specialist.

• Improving care for CGD patients by holding our first consensus meeting. Work will continue to achieve a gold standard of care and treatment, improve diagnosis and lead to better quality of life. Our aim is for a consensus of opinion of national and international expert opinion to be adopted by the Royal College of Physicians.

• Raising awareness and recognition of CGD and CGDRT at the Association of Medical Research Charities

• Building partnerships with other organisations and agencies.
